Lanzhou Jiaotong University adheres to the orientation of scientific research towards the frontiers of global science and technology, the main battlefield of the economy, the major needs of the country, and the health of the people. It continuously strengthens basic research and technological development, adheres to the cooperation among industry, academia, and research, and takes the initiative to serve the development of the country, the rail transit industry, and the local economy. Over the past 65 years, it has established a number of national scientific research platforms, such as the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Green Coating Technology and Equipment, the National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Disaster Prevention and Control Technology of Road and Bridge Engineering, and the National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center for the Application of Geographical National Conditions Monitoring Technology. There are also 6 key laboratories, engineering research centers, collaborative innovation centers, cultural inheritance and innovation bases of the Ministry of Education, and the National Language Promotion Base, as well as 2 key laboratories of the national railway industry. The total number of various provincial-level and above scientific and technological innovation bases has reached 80, and the number of platform constructions ranks among the top among provincial universities. In aspects such as transportation civil engineering, intelligent transportation, advanced equipment manufacturing, automatic control, information engineering, environmental protection, logistics management, green energy, and biological pesticides, a large number of outstanding scientific research achievements have been produced. It has won 6 national science and technology awards, including 1 special prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. It has participated in the scientific research and technological service work of more than 100 major national railway projects, such as the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, the Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway, the Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway, and the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway, and has made outstanding contributions to the development of China's rail transit industry and the construction of a transportation powerhouse.

In the past five years, based on the new development stage, the scientific research work has implemented the new development concept, taken the initiative to serve the construction of the new development pattern, adapted to the needs of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, and deeply promoted the integration of teaching and research, interdisciplinary integration, the integration of industry and education, collaborative education, and joint research. It has won 1 second prize of the National Science and Technology Award, which is the only national science and technology award won by provincial universities in Gansu Province during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period. It has won 124 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards, including 13 first prizes. It has undertaken more than 2,800 various vertical and horizontal scientific research projects, with a total funding of 620 million yuan, including 27 projects such as the National Key R&D Program, the Key Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Major Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the High-Speed Railway Joint Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It has been authorized 3,319 national patents, including more than 500 national invention patents. It has published 5,645 high-level academic papers included in SCI and EI.Looking to the future, the scientific research work of Lanzhou Jiaotong University will further adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, actively integrate into the major national strategies, coordinate the promotion of the "trinity" strategy of education, science and technology, and talents, accelerate the implementation of organized scientific research, and promote the high-quality development of scientific research work.
