The School of Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering at Lanzhou Jiaotong University currently offers two undergraduate programs: Biological Engineering and Pharmaceutical Engineering. It also has four master's degree programs in Biology, Biochemical Engineering, Biology and Medicine, and Resources and Environment, as well as a doctoral program in Environmental Engineering. Among these, Biology is recognized as a key discipline in Gansu Province, and the school has established a complete talent training system for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels.

1. Faculty Team

The school boasts a highly qualified, high-ranking, and youthful faculty team. Currently, there are 42 staff members, including 5 professors, 3 doctoral supervisors, and 30 associate professors, with 75% holding senior titles. There are 30 faculty members with doctoral degrees, accounting for 68%, and 33 young and middle-aged teachers under the age of 45, making up 75% of the faculty.

3. Research Directions and Achievements

The school closely aligns with national strategies and local needs, fully leveraging the biological resource advantages of the western region. It has achieved a series of high-level research results with distinct local characteristics and unique regional advantages in the following areas:

Biopesticides

Development and utilization of authentic Chinese medicinal materials

Vegetable fermentation engineering

Research on plateau edible fungi

Biopharmaceuticals

Biological remediation of environmental pollution

The school has formed five research teams with significant regional advantages and industry characteristics, focusing on the conversion and utilization of biological resources, ecological environmental remediation, development of fermented biological products, biopharmaceuticals, and synthetic biology. Research achievements, such as the self-developed biopesticide series "5% Apigenin," microbial fertilizers, the "Longjiangyuan" series of fermented vegetable products, enzyme-based flour improvers, and artificial cultivation technology of Cordyceps sinensis, have all been industrialized.

4. Industry-Academia-Research Service System

The school’s industry-academia-research service system is based in Gansu, oriented towards industry, and radiates nationwide. Relying on the system of technology commissioners and specialists in Gansu Province, it provides technological services to more than 20 key enterprises in the fields of biology, food, and pharmaceuticals within the province. The school has established long-term and stable cooperative relationships with companies such as Wuhan Yuanda Hongyuan Co., Ltd., Zhongnong Weite Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Lanzhou Muyao Biotechnology Research and Development Co., Ltd., Lanzhou Baiyuan Gene Technology Co., Ltd., Gansu Longjiangyuan Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd., and Lanzhou Kaibo Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Comprehensive cooperation is conducted in areas such as scientific project collaboration, technology transfer, co-construction of research platforms, and student internships and employment, providing solid support for high-level talent cultivation and high-quality employment.
