Crossing mountains and seas, gathering at LZJTU. On August 30th, the campus of LZJTU, which was just beginning to show the signs of autumn, welcomed a new batch of faces. 5,598 undergraduates and 2,890 postgraduates of the class of 2025 arrived as scheduled. Here, they will set sail with their youth and ride the waves of The Times, writing a brand-new chapter in their lives.

As always, the university has set up multiple guidance stations at the South Gate, the registration point for new students, and student apartment areas to provide considerate services for new students, including directions, luggage carrying, and Q&A support, ensuring a smooth and efficient registration process. “Hello, new students!” “Warm welcome!” The friendly greetings and enthusiastic assistance from the greeting volunteers instantly melted away the fatigue of the new students' journey.

Eager Expectations and Heartfelt Care for New Students

On the morning of the 30th, Secretary of the CPC LZJTU Committee Di Shengkui, Executive Vice President Nie Lei, and Vice President Su Cheng visited the undergraduate welcoming points at the South Gate and the Bell Tower, and the postgraduate welcoming point at Tangchen Square, among other places. They warmly greeted the incoming Class of 2025 students and their families, engaging in friendly conversations and taking photos together, and inquired in detail about the registration process and accommodation arrangements. They also expressed their appreciation to the registration staff and student volunteers working at the welcoming sites.

"Welcome to LZJTU for your studies. If you have any difficulties with your daily life, please don’t hesitate to let us know," said Di Shengkui at the welcome sign-in wall at the South Gate, as he greeted four new students from the disaster-affected area of Yuzhong County, Lanzhou. He inquired in detail about their registration process and presented them with care packages containing red envelopes and daily necessities. In the parents’ rest area, he warmly spoke with the families, thanking them for their trust in the university. "The university will do its utmost to nurture every student," Di assured them. "Please rest assured, all parents!"

"The orientation program serves as the first stop in nurturing students. Humanistic spirit of LZJTU is infused through every detail of the orientation, reaching every student and parent," said Di Shengkui at the undergraduate orientation site near the Bell Tower, where he warmly interacted with volunteers assisting with the enrollment procedures. Di Shengkui carefully inquired about the academic aspirations and chosen majors of the new students, patiently addressed questions from parents, and urged the new students to adapt to their new environment as quickly as possible while cherishing their university years. He encouraged them to live up to their youth, study diligently, and become promising pillars of the nation and society.

At the postgraduate student orientation site on Tangchen Square, Nie Lei cordially inquired about the students’ academic disciplines and future aspirations. She encouraged everyone to broaden their horizons, study diligently, pursue further education, and explore the wider world.

A Distinctive and Vibrant Orientation

The orientation site was not just a place for new students to complete registration procedures but also their "first encounter" with their desired colleges and majors. It served as an important opportunity for them to learn about various aspects closely related to their studies and campus life. The university’s unique orientation activities offered a refreshing experience: At the South Gate orientation check-in point, the Student Affairs Office set up a dedicated photo printing station for new students to capture commemorative moments. The constant flow of newcomers made the photos taken there cherished mementos of their first meeting with the university. The "Green Channel" service station provided one-stop consultation and processing services for student loan applications. The Student Financial Aid Management Center carefully prepared "care packages" for students from economically disadvantaged families, containing daily necessities, school supplies, physical examination vouchers, and temporary financial assistance, effectively addressing their practical concerns. At the School of Mathematics and Physics registration point, display boards featuring outstanding graduates inspired new students to work hard from now.

Heartwarming Support, Meticulously Organized

To ensure comprehensive service during orientation day, all university departments made thorough preparations and detailed arrangements in advance. The Party Committee Security Department enhanced traffic control and safety management on campus, setting up anti-fraud awareness booths to safeguard newcomers' personal finances. The Student Affairs Office provided seating and drinking water stations at the parent waiting area of Bell Tower Square, embodying the university’s warmth and care. The Logistics Support Department carried out inspections and upgrades of campus infrastructure, including road repairs and environmental beautification projects. The Infrastructure Office continued its campus renewal efforts—new furniture, new buildings, and updated management systems significantly enhanced the living experience for students. The newly unveiled library houses 2.2 million printed books, 1.87 million e-books, and smart facilities that blend seamlessly with its humanistic ambiance. The Logistics Service Center ensured ample meal provisions and thoughtful dining services for undergraduate newcomers, striving to make their "first meal at LZJTU" an unforgettable memory. The Publicity Department distributed handbooks on responsible online behavior to all new students. The Finance Department set up service points at the orientation site, offering convenient and efficient one-stop assistance for network access and fee payment. These all-encompassing support measures collectively created a safe, convenient, and welcoming environment for the start of the academic journey.

Gathering Excellence, Writing a New Chapter

In 2025, our university enrolled 5,598 undergraduate students from 31 provinces across the country, with a steady improvement in the quality of intake. Both the admission scores and rankings reached new highs. For the first time, the proportion of cross-provincial students exceeded that of in-provincial, accounting for 51% of the total undergraduate enrollment. In the main round of national general admissions, the number of students scoring over 600 points increased significantly compared to the previous year, reflecting a notable optimization in both the structure and quality of the student body. The university continues to promote reforms in enrollment and talent development. Eleven specialized programs, such as the Excellence Program Class, Mao Yisheng Class, and Zhan Tianyou Class, were made available for direct application, attracting a large number of high-achieving students. This year, the university further expanded its joint undergraduate programs for top innovative talents in collaboration with Beijing Jiaotong University and Southwest Jiaotong University, garnering widespread attention from prospective students.

Student Bai Junyu from Beijing was admitted to the Joint Training Program with Beijing Jiaotong University at the School of Traffic and Transportation this year. Having been passionate about high-speed railways and transportation since childhood, and optimistic about the future prospects of this industry, he chose transportation as his major. During his college years, he hopes to step out of his comfort zone, broaden his horizons, focus on his studies, actively strive to take on student leadership roles to hone his abilities, and work hard to secure a recommendation for postgraduate studies at Beijing Jiaotong University.

Tian Ye, a 2025 new student from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, said excitedly, "I hope to study hard over the four years of college, pursue postgraduate studies in the future, find an ideal job, and live up to my college years."

Feng Zhen, an incoming new student in the School of Civil Engineering in 2025, can’t wait to start university life. “I look forward to meeting a better version of myself at LZJTU!”

Zhu Kangyu, another new student at the School of Mechanical Engineering in 2025, also used the word “excited” to describe how he felt on registration day. “The campus is beautiful, and the library left a particularly deep impression on me. I want to take my time to experience and enjoy university life.”
