On October 15, Shanghai Ranking, a globally leading higher education evaluation agency, officially released the "2025 Shanghai Ranking's Best Chinese Subjects Ranking". Six disciplines from our university were listed, namely Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Transportation Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. The number of listed disciplines increased by two compared to the previous year (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Technology), indicating a steady year-on-year upward trend in the overall strength of our disciplines.

The indicator system for the "Shanghai Ranking's Best Chinese Subjects Ranking" includes five major categories: Talent Cultivation, Platform Projects, Achievement Awards, Academic Papers, and High-Level Talents. These are further broken down into 19 indicators and over 200 key metrics reflecting disciplinary competitiveness, tracking and measuring the real-time performance and relative positions of tens of thousands of discipline points in Chinese universities.

Discipline development is the core task of higher education development and a key reflection of a university's educational quality, academic reputation, and comprehensive strength. In recent years, seizing the important opportunity presented by the "Gansu Provincial University National First-Class Discipline Breakthrough Project", the Lanzhou Jiaotong University has actively aligned with major national and regional strategies such as "Transportation Power", "Belt and Road", and the "Pilot Zone for Reform of Higher Education in Central and Western Regions". Adhering to the principle of making discipline development the central task guiding the university's progress, the university has continuously increased investment, optimized the disciplinary structure, made resource allocation more precise and efficient, fully stimulated the endogenous motivation of disciplines, and achieved steady improvement in disciplinary influence and talent cultivation quality. Specific measures include: 1) Coordinating the promotion of first-class discipline breakthroughs and the coordinated development of multiple disciplines, focusing on strengths and characteristic development. 2) Precisely formulating task lists for discipline development, strengthening foundations, and promoting construction through fundamentals. 3) Strengthening the primary responsibility of schools in discipline development, emphasizing connotative construction and systematic planning. 4) Regularly conducting discipline scheduling and progress tracking to ensure effectiveness.

Moving forward, the university will continue to drive high-quality disciplinary development through the construction of first-class disciplines. Leveraging big data support from third-party disciplinary "profiles", the university will accurately assess the current status of disciplines and define pathways for advancement. With the core focus on "addressing weaknesses, strengthening advantages, and producing landmark achievements", the university will scientifically plan the disciplinary layout, consolidate efforts, and fully promote planned and organized discipline construction. This aims to resonate with the precise service of national strategies and the empowerment of local development, striving to create a new phase in our university's discipline development.
