On November 21, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced the results of the 2025 academician selection, electing 73 CAS academicians and 71 CAE academicians respectively. Xi Beidou, an alumnus who graduated from the School of Environmental Engineering at Lanzhou Jiaotong University in 1988, was successfully elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Xi Beidou, male, Han ethnicity, was born in October 1969 in Dangshan, Anhui Province. He is a member of the Communist Party of China. Currently, he serves as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President, Researcher and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Chief Expert of the Innovation Base for Groundwater and Environmental Systems Engineering at the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Director of the State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Groundwater Pollution Simulation and Control, and is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

Xi Beidou obtained his Bachelor of Engineering in June 1992 and his Master of Engineering in May 1999, both in School of Environmental Engineering, from Lanzhou Jiaotong University. He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Tsinghua University in July 2002, after which he engaged in postdoctoral research in Canada. From August 2004 to August 2008, he served as an Associate Researcher at the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences. From January 2010 to January 2014, he was the Academic Leader of the Water Environmental Systems Engineering Research Office at the Academy. In 2014, he received funding from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He has been the Director of the State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Groundwater Pollution Simulation and Control since January 2015. In December 2024, he assumed the roles of President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences. In November 2025, he was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
