The School of Economics and Management of Lanzhou Jiaotong University, formerly known as the Department of Economics, was founded in 1995.In 2000, in order to meet the needs of the development of the discipline, the Department of Economics and the Department of Social Sciences merged to form the School of Economics and Management. The school currently consists of 3 departments which encompass Accounting Department,Economics Department and Business Administration Department, and a Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Economics and Management, a Northwest Transportation Economics Research Center (a key research base for humanities and social sciences in Gansu Province), a Key Laboratory of E-commerce and Supply Chain Management in Gansu Universities, an MBA Education Center and an MPAcc Education Center. At present, there are 1130 undergraduates (including 32 international students), 116 academic master's degree students and 667 professional master's degree students.
The School has the authorized point of doctoral degree of “economic management and decision-making”, the authorized point of master's degree of “applied economics” (provincial key discipline) and “business administration”, and the authorized point of MBA (MPAcc). There are two first-level discipline master's degree authorization points: “Applied Economics” (provincial key discipline) and “Business Administration”, and two professional degree authorization points of MBA and MPAcc. The school have five undergraduate majors, including Accounting, International Economics and Trade, Business Administration, Marketing and Financial Management, of which the International Economics and Trade major is a national first-class major, and the Accounting and Business Administration majors are provincial first-class major.
The school currently has 73 faculty members including 67 full-time teachers. There are 11 professors and 28 associate professors, which accounts for 57% of full-time teachers. 16 teachers are PhDs and 52 with master’s degree, 92.5% of the teachers are external-educated. There are 1 New Century talent of the Ministry of Education, 1 leading talent of the national accounting discipline, 5 leading talents of Gansu accounting discipline, 1 innovative talent of 555 in Gansu Province,1 innovation and entrepreneurship educational talent of Gansu Province, 2 accounting top talents, 4 won the young teachers “Achievement Award” in higher education of Gansu Province . The school also has engaged more than 20 experts served as adjunct professor, guest professor and honorary professor.
In the past five years, the school adheres to the philosophy of “carrying forward the spirit of Tianyou, spreading knowledge of economics and management, cultivating lifelong learners, and promoting social progress”, and continuously improves the quality of talent training and the level of construction of disciplines and specialties. Teachers in the school have presided over 55 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects, including 16 national projects with a total funding of more than 7.1 million yuan, and more than 130 projects entrusted by local governments and enterprises with a funding of more than 18 million yuan; teachers and students have published more than 280 papers of various types, including more than 30 papers of SSCI and SCI, more than 50 papers of CSSCI and CSCD, and more than 60 papers of EI; More than 20 scientific research have won different levels of awards. Students have won more than 50 national awards and more than 300 provincial and ministerial awards in disciplinary competitions.
In the new era, the school takes the lead of the “1152” development goal established by the party congress of the university , following the fundamental principle of establishing moral character and the theme of high-quality development, based on the rail transportation industry and serving the local economic development, thus to strive to build a high-level school of economics and management with distinctive features in Northwest China.
