The School of geomatics at Lanzhou Jiaotong University was established in June 2012 and was formed by the Department of Geomatics Engineering from the School of Civil Engineering and the Department of Geographical Information from the School of Mathematics and Software Engineering.

Currently, the school employs 62 faculty members, including 53 full-time teachers. Among them are 11 doctoral supervisors, 15 professors, and 19 associate professors. The school includes one international teacher, 42 doctors (80.7%), and 19 faculty members with overseas doctoral degrees or visiting experience (36.5%). The school has five national-level talents, including Distinguished Professors of the Changjiang Scholars Program and Youth Talents from the National Ten Thousand Talents Program, as well as 21 provincial and ministerial-level talents, including Gansu Provincial Top-tier and Leading Talents, Feitian Scholars, Distinguished Young Scholars (JQ), and Western Light Scholars from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The "Geomatics Science and Technology Faculty Team" was selected as one of the second batch of "National Huang Danian-style Teaching Teams in Colleges and Universities." At the same time, the "Innovative Graduate Supervisor Team in Geomatics" was included in the "Outstanding Graduate Education Team in Gansu Province."

The school offers a postdoctoral research station in Geomatics Science and Technology, doctoral and master's programs in Geomatics Science and Technology (a key discipline in Gansu Province), and doctoral and master's programs in Resources and Environmental Studies. It also offers three undergraduate programs: Geographical Information Science, Geomatics Engineering, and Remote Sensing Science and Technology. Among them, "Geomatics Engineering" and "Geographical Information Science" are designated national-level first-class undergraduate programs. Additionally, the school has established a provincial-level talent training base for top students in Geo-Informatics Science. Currently, the school enrolls over 600 undergraduate students and more than 300 graduate students.

The school hosts several key research and teaching platforms, including the "National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Technologies and Applications for National Geographic State Monitoring" (a national-level research platform), the "Key Laboratory of Science and Technology in Surveying & Mapping, Gansu Province", the "Gansu Provincial Engineering Laboratory for National Geographic State Monitoring," and the "Provincial-Level Demonstration Center for Surveying and Geo-Informatics Experimental Teaching." The school also operates an international English journal editorial office, with the Journal of Geovisualization and Spatial Analysis (JGSA) officially indexed by databases such as EI, ESCI, and Scopus.

As one of the key bases for training advanced professionals in geo-informatics, surveying, and remote sensing in the western region of China, the school has contributed thousands of skilled professionals to society, with a student employment rate consistently above 95%. Graduates are highly praised by employers for their professional skills, practical ability, and comprehensive qualities.

In the realm of surveying and geo-informatics, the school strives to embody a spirit of truth-seeking, practicality, and innovation, seizing opportunities and working diligently towards becoming a high-level, research-oriented institution with distinctive characteristics.
