Di Shengkui attends the unveiling ceremony for Confucius Institute at University of Seville in Spain

On April 8, 2024, the unveiling ceremony of Confucius Institute at University of Seville was held at the President's Building. Di Shengkui, Party Secretary of Lanzhou Jiaotong University and Miguel Ángel, President of University of Seville attended the ceremony.

Zhao Lingshan, Secretary General of Chinese International Education Foundation sent congratulations via video. Yao Jing, Chinese Ambassador to Spain and Carmen Vargas, Vice President of University of Seville attended the unveiling ceremony and delivered speeches. The director of Center of International Exchange of Lanzhou Jiaotong University, director of educational department in Seville City and directors from both sides of Confucius Institute were also invited to attend the unveiling ceremony.

Di Shengkui said in his speech that Lanzhou Jiaotong University will work together with University of Seville to build Confucius Institute as a place which serves as a bridge across mountains and rivers for communication, and a bond between China and Spain. He said that Lanzhou Jiaotong University would use Confucius Institute as a new driving force for development, striving to deepen cooperation and exchanges with University of Seville, thus allowing people from Spain and Europe to better understand and witness China’s development, and promoting friendly co-operation and common development between China and Europe.

President Miguel reviewed the history of exchanges between University of Seville and Lanzhou Jiaotong University. He also talked about negotiations, preparations for the process of building Confucius Institutes. He said that Spain and China are both countries with a long history with world influence. The two countries have extensive exchanges in science and technology, education, sports, humanities, and other aspects. The establishment of the Confucius Institute at University of Seville will provide new channels for friendly exchange between people from the two countries.

Gonzalo Miranda and Chen Jie, local and Chinese directors of the Institute promised to work together to enhance international promotion of Chinese language and culture, and promote educational and cultural exchanges between China and Europe.

The unveiling ceremony was concluded in a warm atmosphere of traditional Chinese musical instruments performance, martial arts and Dunhuang dance performances, as well as chorus singing and flamenco dances performed by students from University of Seville.

Teachers and students from School of Foreign Languages, School of Art and Design and Physical Education Department attended the unveiling ceremony and performed traditional culture.
